Postcard show

This week-end I went to the 33rd Annual Postcard Show here in Richmond.  It was really interesting to see loads and loads of postcards everywhere.  There you could find just about any postcard you could imagine.  They had all kinds of categories and most of them were older cards, so therefore quite pricey.  They had cards there for over $100 a piece.  Loved those cards, but unfortunately can't afford nothing like that.  Anyways, it was just fun to look at them.  Luckily a few of the sellers there had a few boxes with 25 cents cards, so I was able to get some after all, which was nice.  A few to send out and a few to keep.:)

My Grannies are here!

Yeeeeah, my grannies arrived!!!  I received my exchange grannies yesterday in the mail.  I was so happy to find them in my mail box and they're all really beautiful.  Now, I just have to figure out what to make out of them.  I think I'll probably try to make a pillow.  It may take me a while, since the holidays are fastly approaching and there are so many other things to do.
It was a fun project to be in and it encouraged me to crochet again, which I really have missed doing the last few years.  I'm already thinking about joining the next exchange in the New Year.

These are the grannies I received back.

Travelling Granny Squares

Yeah, my granny squares arrived in Germany this week and now I'm anxiously awaiting on the ones I'll receive back.  I'm not sure, what I'll make from them yet, but probably a pillow.  I saw some of them on different blogs and they really look so nice.  It will take me a while though to get it done, since I'm quite limited on free time and now with the holidays approaching, there is even more to do.

My Grannies

Finally finished them!!!  My grannies are done, yeah!!!  :)
I really fell behind with everything this last month, because I didn't feel too well for a couple of weeks and I didn't get much done, other than just going to work. Tried to send these out Friday, but unfortunately I missed the post office by just a few minutes.  Just my luck:(  Have to get them out in the mail tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to the grannies that I will receive back and I'm quite curious about them.

Strolling through Carytown

We went to Carytown the week-end before last.  It's a street here in the downtown area of Richmond, about 9 blocks long with all kinds of specialty stores, clothes, toys, collectibles, vintage etc., lots of restaurants and some cafes.  A pretty cool place just to stroll along and window shop, sit in a sidewalk cafe and just people watch.   Some things are quite expensive there, but I managed to find something to buy. ;)

In one of the stores I found all this "Hello Kitty" stuff and I just had to get something.  I got this cute tote bag.  The saleslady said, that they had just come in a few days before and are for the 50th anniversary of Sanrio.  Ok, I was already sold on it anyways.
Then I saw this awesome journal and had to get that too.  There is something about journals and cute note pads and things like that, I just love to get, not that I'm really that big of a writer.  I really should start to keep a journal,  and what greater inspiration, than jotting down some of my thoughts into this cool one.

Also found a store with some great postcards and of course I couldn't resist getting them. It's pretty difficult to find any cards here, other than touristic ones and I'm always on the look-out for cards now, it's become an addiction lol. I especially love the tin with the "Sweet Treats" cards. Soooo pretty with glitter!!!
They really had some awesome stuff there and so much to look at. It took me almost an hour to look through the entire store.  There was some really beautiful stationary and other writing paper and envelopes, but quite expensive, so I chose to get the postcards instead.  Maybe next time I'll get something else!

Crocheting now!

The last week I've crocheted 3 more grannies. I need to have 9 by the beginning of next month, so I can send them off. I'm trying different designs and it's really fun. I've also started a ripple afghan, which I'll continue working on from time to time for a change.
Will show some pictures soon!

My First Granny Square

So, here it is, my 1st granny square. This one, I think I'll count as a trial one and keep for myself.

Yeah, my yarn is here!

My yarn finally came yesterday. Now I can get started on making my granny squares. Hope it will go alright, since I haven't really crocheted a lot in the last years. I guess it's like riding a bicycle lol. The yarn is also a lot thinner than I'm used to working with, but I'll figure it out.
So hopefully, if it goes well, I'll be able to show my 1st granny here pretty soon.

Back to Crocheting!

It's been a few years since I've done any crocheting and lately I've been thinking about getting back into it. I used to just crochet while watching TV. I guess I got so caught up with work and responsibilities and things, where it doesn't leave a whole lot of time to do much of anything else, because I'm usually too tired for it. So, I'm going to try to take a little time out to do some crocheting again.
About 2 weeks ago I stumbled upon this blog about granny squares. What it actually is: it's a bunch of girls in different groups crocheting 9 granny squares in their color group. Everybody keeps one and sends the other 8 to the organizer of the whole thing. Then everybody gets 8 back, one from each of the girls in the group. I thought to myself, what a cool idea and wanted to try it. Almost all the girls are in Germany, which that's not a problem. As a matter of fact, after contacting the coordinator she was really nice and reserved me a place for the color group I requested. The problem I ran into, was trying to find the right yarn. I searched high and low on the internet and some local stores for the appropriate one for several days and was about to give up on the whole idea of joining the exchange. I had contacted a few companies, and finally heard back from one. They're in Canada and they do have the wool I need, even though in limited colors, but enough of a selection to participate and they ship to the States, yeah:)
So, after placing my order this week, I'm patiently waiting for my yarn now, so I can get started. The group is called Grannylieseln and you can find them here. There's still some openings for anyone, who'd like to join!

Time to relax

Yummy!

I love to go to Panera's and have one of these delicious pastries (bearclaw) and a coffee mocha or a latte. It's nice to just sit outside, when it's not too hot, with my husband and enjoy a good cup of coffee like this and talk and just take an hour or so to unwind from the every day stress. We've also taken our laptops and I've done a bit of blogging or postcrossing, or just surf the net, since they have the wireless connection there. Sometimes you have to have a little me-time!:)

Finally some time off

Yeah, a week-end off! Spent last night catching up on uploading some postcards to my Flickr group for the monthly RR's. They're so addictive, but sooo much fun and I've received some really awesome postcards. You can see some of them here. It is really a lot of work to keep them all organized and I'm sooo behind. One of these days hopefully I'll get all caught up.

Welcome to my new blog

Hi everyone!
I've decided to start another blog to talk about whatever comes to mind. I still have my postcard blog, which I started over a year ago and thoroughly enjoy!
Although my life isn't that exciting, but I thought I'd give it a try. I have so many interests, just lately not much time for them. Hopefully, one of these days I'll get a bit more organized and squeeze some time in for them.
So, feel free to take a look and leave a comment if you like.
